General Service Medal

General Service Medal (GSM)

The GSM was introduced in 19th January 1923.

 

This medal was a campaign medal, awarded forservice in minor conflicts for which no other specific campaign medal is awarded (does not include India and East, West and Africa).

 

It was always awarded with a clasp indicating the area for which the medal was awarded. Subsequent service is recognised by the award of further clasps to be worn on the original medal, the most recent being the topmost clasp.
