Corporal Sidney John Hore, aged 35, was born 1882 in Shaldon and baptised in Stokeinteighead.
His parents were William and Hannah Hore of Ringmore Farm.
After her husband's death his mother and some of her children moved to Surrey, leaving Sidney in Teignmouth where he worked as a grocer's assistant. The 1911 census shows that he later joined the family in Surrey and was living with his sister and brother in law in West Moseley - still working as a grocer.

Sidney enlisted at Shepherd's Bush. He joined 22nd battalion, Royal Fusileers, service no 562.
In 1915 he married Emily Jessett in Andover, Hampshire. She later moved to The Bungalow,Bath Road, Marlborough in Wiltshire.
He died 17 February 1917 in France and is remembered on Thiepval Memorial, Somme.
