William Frederick Winsborrow was born in Quarter 3, 1891 in Shaldon, Devon.

He was a son of Richard and Ann Winsborrow.

Frederick's siblings included James, John, Mary and Selina.

In 1911 William was better known by his second name "Frederick", he was 20 years old and with his father and his step-mother Elizabeth, at Middle street, Shaldon. He was working as a blacksmith.

Frederick was in the 5th Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment.

He was honourably discharged due to wounds or sickness from military service at some point as he is wearing a silver war badge in the photograph.

He survived the war.
