From 1900-10 was practising in South Africa and carried out the preliminary investigations for and designed and subsequently supervised the construction of many works for Water Supply, Drainage and Irrigation.
For five years acted as Supervising Engineer in the Irrigation Branch of the P.W.D. Publications, William has contributed several papers to Engineering and other scientific societies.
WW1 Services
In 1917 was given a commission in the Royal Engineers and was engaged in connection with aerodrome construction and promoted to Captain. William transferred into the Royal Air Force with the rank of Major. He was demobilized in October 1919.

William's wife died on the 1st of May 1929 and William died on the 22nd of October 1934, aged 73.
