Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Hugh Lucas DSO, age 38, born in Aden in 1882 was the son of Hugh Claude Edward Lucas, a retired colonel of the Indian Army, and his wife Emilie nee Schlencker.
Malcolm was the brother of Clifton Mallet Lucas and the grandson of General Sir Alfred William Lucas JP, Dunmore House, Shaldon. In 1891 they were living at Courtenay Place, East Teignmouth. Following his time at Sandhurst Royal Military College Malcolm was first commissioned on 18 January 1902.
In 1913 he married Eveleen Anne Isabella Robson in Bengal.

He joined the 37th Lancers (Baluch Horse) a regiment which remained in India throughout the war, arriving at Ambala, India on 31 October 1919.
Here it remained until proceeding to Mesopotamia where they took part in the suppression of the 1920 Iraq Revolt.
Lieutenant-Colonel Lucas had also served as the Inspector General of the South Persia Rifles.
He died quite suddenly of heart failure on 2 August 1920 whilst on active service in Persia.
