 Aubrey's birth was registered in Thornborough, Buckinghamshire in 1887.

He was the only son of Frederick John and Martha Miller.

Frederick, his father, came from Otterton, Devon but spent most of his working life living in Chelsea, London as a butler/valet.

 

 

Aubrey grew up in London with his sister Thirza, and they appeared on the 1891 census with their mother at Chelsea.

In 1901 he and his sister were shown living with his parents who were working and living in for a barrister in Westminster. His sister died at the age of 20 in 1906.

He enlisted at Dover with 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, service number 9721, around 1903 and was shown on the census for 1911 as a sergeant with the Northumberland Fusiliers then on board a naval ship in home waters.

He re-engaged for 21 years on 20 February 1914.

Entering the theatre of war in France on 13 August 1914,  Aubrey was serving with 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, when he was killed in action on 14th October 1914 aged 27.

At the time of his death his parents had retired to Thornboro, Paradise Road, Teignmouth, he was their only surviving child.
