Private Alfred James Massey age 20. Born in Birmingham, he was possibly the son of Levi and Emily Massey.
Prior to the war he worked for Crane & Sons, Moseley Street, Birmingham. Cannot find any connection with Teignmouth.
He volunteered in September 1914, his address at this time was 53, Stanhope Street, Highgate, Birmingham.

After a short period of training he was posted to France, Serving with the 1st Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, service number 24784, he took part in the battles of Neuve Chapelle, Hill 60, Ypres, Festubert, Loos and Givenchy.
Alfred was reported as killed in action on the Somme on 15 November 1916. His younger brother was serving with the same regiment.
His gratuity was paid to his aunt, Mrs Susan Massey at above address. Remembered on Thiepval Memorial, Somme.
