Lieutenant Thomas Hugh Sandford Senior age 32.

Born in Northamptonshire on 5 December 1883 and baptized on 20 January 1884 in Hardingstone, the son of Colonel Thomas P Senior and his wife Katherine.

The 1901 census showed the family living at Mutley, Plymouth, where his father was serving as Colonel of the Army Pay Dept.

In 1911 he was living as a boarder in Kensington where he was working as an insurance inspector; his parents were now living at 'Summerhill', Buckeridge Road, Teignmouth.

 

In a 1914 HAC record his address was given as Plymouth. Thomas was well known in Teignmouth.

He enlisted with the Honourable Artillery Company on 1 March 1909 and resigned on 20 April 1914.

Re-enlisting with the Company again on 9 August 1914 Thomas was posted Corporal on 18 September 1914, service number 1229, with 1st Battalion, Honourable Artillery Company.

In February 1915 he was commissioned Lieutenant from 11 February 1915 with 3rd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. He was awarded the 1914 Mons Star for his service with the HAC.

Thomas was serving with the 2nd Battalion, when he was killed in action on 11 June 1916. Buried at Cambrin Church Extension, France.
