Audrey Lynne was born in 1875 at Lower Beeding, Sussex. The 1901 census shows Audrey living with her mother Margaret Ann and sister Gwendoline at Marine Parade, Shaldon.

At the start of WW1 Audrey was appointed a voluntary clerk for the British Red Cross Devon division.

She instructed hundreds of people in First Aid through two world wars and the years in between.

Audrey acted as Honorary Secretary for Teignmouth Urban District Council's war refugee committee.

In recognition of her hard work with Belgian refugees, she was awarded the Medaille de la Reine Elisabeth in July 1918.

By the time of her death in 1967 aged 92 she also held an MBE, the Defence Medal and the British Red Cross Service Medal.

The letter reads:
