Miss Mary Wade Williams of Alwyns, East Teignmouth, Devon.
Mary was born c. 11870 in Eglwysilan, Glamorganshire, Wales.
Her father was 1George Williams, a Leather Factor, born 61827 in Wooton, Gloucestershire. Her mother was 1Emily Florence Williams (6 née Smith) born 1838 in Bristol, Gloucestershire.
In 11881 Mary, her parents and her siblings Florence Elizabeth Williams, Georgina Meredith Williams and Thomas R. Williams were living at 3 Paragon Villas in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset. Two live-in servants (a cook and a housemaid) were also present.
By 21891 the family had moved to The Alwyns on Barnpark Road in Teignmouth, Devon. Present at this point were both of Mary's parents, Mary and her sister Florence.
In 31901 Mary was living with her widowed mother and her sister Florence at The Alwyns. Mary's mother described herself as on private means and the family had three servants living with them (a cook, a house parlour-maid and a maid).
Mary, her mother and sister Florence were still living at the Alwyns in 41911, and in 1916 Mary gave her address to VAD as The Alwyns.
Mary was engaged as a nurse with the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) of the British Red Cross from January 1916 to June 1917, she worked at the Teignmouth General Hospital and worked for 2856 hours.
Major (Acting) Roland Elphinstone Gordon, MC and Bar, MID
Georgina Meredith Williams, Mary's sister, married George Dalrymple Gordon and they had a son, Mary's nephew, Major (Acting) Roland Elphinstone Gordon, MC and Bar, MID, of C Battery, 251st (Northumbrian) Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.
Roland died of wounds at the Somme on 30 August 1918 aged 25.
Mary died a spinster on the 613th July, 1937 at that time she was living at Broomfield, West Cliffe Road, Dawlish, Devon.
