Captain Kenneth Thomas Limbery, MC; M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P; age 26.

Born 1892 in Teignmouth, the son of Thomas and Margaret Limbery; younger brother of Charles who was killed in 1916. The 1901 census showed Kenneth living with his parents at ‘Florian’, Dawlish Road, Teignmouth. By 1911 he was now living with his parents and younger brother at Trafalgar Cottage and was a medical student. Following a fire at the property his parents moved to 12 Barnpark Terrace.

Kenneth attended Montpelier preparatory school, Paignton, Devon, then was educated at Sherborne School from 1905 to 1910. He studied at St. Thomas’ Medical College, London from 1910 to 1916 passing his final exam in 1916.

Serving as a Dresser in France with the British Red Cross Corps, Belgian Unit from 3 September to 15 December 1914, Kenneth was gazetted Temporary Lieutenant on 15 February 1916 with R.A.M.C. He was later promoted Temporary Captain with 133rd Field Ambulance, RAMC, and was serving with them during the 3rd battle of Ypres when he was killed in action by a shell at Voormezeele on 26 September 1917. Posthumously gazetted Captain on 1 January 1918 and awarded the Military Cross. Mentioned twice in Despatches during his service.

Buried in Godeswaersvelde British Cemetery, France. Remembered on Seafront Memorial and St. Michael’s Church, Teignmouth.

Grave inscription reads: “O Lord Let light perpetual shine upon him”.
