Born 1892 in Islington the son of Alfred, civil servant at India Office, and Lavinia Wallace.
In 1901 the family are living in Edmonton and by 1911 Alfred still living with his family is at Harringay and working as a clerk with wine merchants.
His parents moved to 14 Bitton Avenue, Teignmouth during the war.

He was still living at Harringay when he enlisted at Westminster with the London Regiment, service number 4380. Douglas had transferred and was serving with 1/16 Battalion, London Regiment (Queen's Westminster Rifles), service number 551639 when he was killed in action during the Battle of Cambrai on 30 November 1917.
