Private Andrew Taylor, aged 22, was born in Saltcoats, Ayrshire.

His parents were Andrew and Jeanie Taylor. In 1901 the family were living in Saltcoats, his father working as a commercial clerk.

Andrew enlisted at Ardrossan and joined the Scots Rifles, service no 23115. He transferred to 15th Battalion Royal Scots, Lothian Regiment serve no 43648, and was killed in action on 22 October 1917.

He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial and on the Shaldon War Memorial.

Private Taylor’s connection with Shaldon is not known.
