Lieutenant Colonel Spencer Acklom was the son of the late Colonel Spencer and Mrs Edith Maude Acklom (nee Campbell).
He married Lucie Spencer on 16 March 1909 at St. Michael's Church, Teignmouth. They had a daughter, Esther Acklom.
In 1901 Spencer was shown on the census serving as a gentleman cadet at Sandhurst and in 1911 he was living with his wife at Moreton Hampstead and was listed as a Lieutenant with the Highland Light Infantry.
He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the Highland Light Infantry from 8 February 1902, gazetted Lieutenant from 8 January 1908. At the outbreak of war, he was appointed adjutant with 9th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry and arrived in France on 5 November 1914.
In July 1916 Spencer was given command of 22nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers (3rd Tyneside Scottish), he was also awarded the Military Cross in this year and the Distinguished Service Order gazetted on 1 January 1917; with the bar gazetted in June 1918.
He was attached to 22nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, when he was killed in action on 21 March 1918. Remembered on Arras Memorial, France.
