Private Reginald John Northcott age 19.

Born in Teignmouth during Quarter 1, 1899 the only son of John and Rosina Beatrice Northcott. 

Reginald was shown on the 1901 census living with his parents at Combe Lodge, Teignmouth. His father had been born in Broadoak (Braddock), Cornwall in 1874 and his mother born in 1870 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. At that point Reginald's father was listed as employed as a gardener.

In 1911 Reginald was twelve years old and living at Colesloggett near Bodmin with his father, mother and younger sister Beatrice Irene Northcott, who had been born in Cardinham, Cornwall in 1902.  Reginald's father is listed as a farmer at at this time and the family have a 16 year old Florence Tregoning from nearby St Winnow living with them as a domestic servant.

Reginald was serving with the Reserve Cavalry Regiment, service number 34959 enlisting at the beginning of the war at Bodmin with 10th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, service number  35497.

The regiment were at Kemmel near the river Lys when the Germans launched another offensive, there were many casualties and Reginald was killed in action during the withdrawal on 26 April 1918.

Reginald is named on the Northcott Family Grave at Bodmin Cemetery

 

 

Reginald was buried in Grootebeek British Cemetery, in Belgium and is remembered on the Cardingham village war memorial (His name is inscribed on the Cardingham Memorial as Northcote).

He is remembered on his parent's grave in Bodmin Old Cemetery (N-30).
