Major Henry Munroe Cole age 41.

Born 23 September 1877 the son of Ralph, gentleman, and Margaret Cole of Park View, and baptised on 31 October at St. Paul's Church, Wolborough. In 1891 and 1901 he was living with his widowed mother and siblings first in Paignton and then at Fell Court, Torquay. He was working as a bank clerk in 1901. He was registered at Momein as an absent voter in 1918.

He married Emily Dorothea Mayo on 18 September 1907 at St. John's Church, Torquay; they were lodging at Bella Vista, Teignmouth, in 1908.

In 1911 they were shown with their young son living at Momein, Landscore Road, Teignmouth; Henry was working as a bank clerk at Lloyds Bank, Teignmouth having joined Lloyds on 14 April 1899.

 

Henry formerly commanded the Teignmouth Company of the 1st Rifle Volunteers and was commissioned in 4th Devonshire Regiment on 7 October 1914 sailing with the regiment to India.

Henry served in Mesopotamia and later in Palestine. He was attached to 1/4th Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment, coming home on leave in Spring 1918.

Later that year he died in Military Hospital No. 24 at Kutara, Suez Canal, from pneumonia on 4 December 1918.

Buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt; remembered on Seafront Memorial and St. James' Church Memorial Window, Teignmouth, Devon.
