Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant Alec Francis Jones, MSM age 28.
Born in Plumstead 1890, son of Arthur, Staff Sergeant with RAMC, and Louisa Jones.
In 1901 he was shown living with his family at Wandsworth. Prior to his army service he worked as a clerk at Putney Bridge Ironworks. In 1911 he was shown on the census at Woolwich Barracks.
Meritorious Service Medal, the award was announced in the London Gazette 18th, October 1916. Awarded for Valuable Services
Alec attested with 4th Battalion (Royal Irish), Dragoon Guards, service number D/3047, as a private on 23 February 1909 in London.
He was promoted to Corporal in March 1912, then to Lance Sergeant on 1 May 1913 and to Sergeant on 1 January 1914.
Promoted S.Q.M. Sergeant in the field on 11 May 1915, he embarked with his regiment to France on 15 August 1915.
Alec was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for "valuable services" as gazetted 18 October 1916.
Applying for an extension of his leave he married Susan Rich Fast, from Brixham, in Croydon, Surrey, on 8 December 1917. She later moved to 12 Barn Park, Teignmouth; a pension of 17s 6d was awarded to her with effect from 26 May 1919.

Alec became ill with influenza on 24 October 1918 and was moved to No. 5 Casualty Clearing Station, at Bihécourt, France on 2 November where he died on 6 November 1918.
He was buried in Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maissemy.
