Private William Skinner Middleton age 36.
He was born at Teignmouth in 1883, son of James and Bessie Middleton, Brook Street.
In 1891 he was shown with his widowed father, a postman, grandparents and brother living at 3 Brook Street.
By 1901 he was with his father and brother at 5 and 6 Station Road, which his father was running as a tobacconist/refreshment room. William was working as a solicitor’s clerk.
In 1911 he was shown with his wife Annie Isobel (born Truro) and young son boarding in Chard, he was working as a law clerk. He is believed to have married Annie Morris in Exeter in 1912.

William enlisted at Chard, Somerset, with 7th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry Regiment, service number 26020. He died of wounds* on 29 March 1918. Remembered on Pozieres Memorial, Somme.
*The 7th Battalion was at the front of the Battle of St Quentin (21-23 March) followed by Battle of Rosiéres (26-27) where very few men were left standing by 27th March 1918.
