Private Arthur Roland Tolley age 41 (In some records the name is Tooley).
Born in 1877 at Coleford (near Crediton), son of George, a grocer/baker, and Annie Tolley.
The 1881 and 1891 census showed him living with his parents in Coleford Village, Crediton. In 1901 he was with his parents at Copplestone and working as a breadmaker for his father. He was shown alone on the electoral roll at New Park, Copplestone, for 1912 and 1913. Arthur married Minnie Ashplant registered at Newton Abbot in 1916. He was shown on the Absent Voter's list for 1918/19 along with his wife at Second Avenue, Teignmouth.
Arthur was living in Teignmouth when he enlisted at Exeter with the Army Service Corps, service number S/2SR/94355.

He was one of the many casualties of the German Spring Offensive when he was killed in action on 21 March 1918, the first day of the offensive.
