Trooper Harold Denham age 31. Born in 1887 at Payhembury, the son of Francis, a butcher, and Elizabeth Denham. In 1901 Harold was living with his parents and siblings at Chelsea Place, West Teignmouth. His mother died prior to WW1.
Before the war he was working with Great Western Railway in the Signal Department, Taunton and is remembered on their roll of honour. His widowed father also moved to Taunton.
He enlisted with 5th Dragoon Guards, service number D/152, and served with them throughout the war. The regiment was attached to 1st Cavalry Brigade when he became ill. Sadly Harold died of broncho-pneumonia in No.11 Stationery Hospital at Rouen on 28 October 1918. Buried in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen. Remembered on Seafront Memorial and St. James' Church Window Memorial, Teignmouth, Devon.
His younger brother, Wilfred Denham, a Sergeant with the Devonshire Regiment had been killed on 10 March 1915.
