Seaman John Edward Boyne age 28. Born in Teignmouth and registered in Quarter 3 1890; the son of John Edward, a fisherman, and Bridget Maloney Boyne. The 1891 census showed the family plus a daughter living at Globe Lane. John's mother Bridget died in 1898 and in 1901 he was a boarder at St. Vincent's Orphan School in Torquay. His father remarried in 1899 and went on to have seven more children. In 1911 John was shown living with his aunt, Sarah Jane Drew, her two sisters and her four children at 20 Mulberry Street, he was working as a labourer. Shown on the 1918 register at 7 Willow Street.
John served as a seaman, service number 7628/D, with Royal Naval Reserve and was registered with HMS President III (this was the administrative base for the RNR). The only records for John show that he died from tuberculosis at his home, 11 Alexander Terrace, on 19 December 1918. Buried on 23rd December in Teignmouth Cemetery; remembered on Seafront Memorial, Teignmouth.
