Born Harbour Grace, Newfoundland in 1881, the son of the late Charles Johnson. He was the husband of Emily, née Manley of 29 Second Avenue, Teignmouth, Devon, they married in 1904 registered at Newton Abbot. In 1913 he was shown serving on board the Teignmouth registered merchant vessel Eldra as a mate.
Peter was serving with the Mercantile Marine on board SS "Westmore" when the ship was sunk by an enemy submarine on 1 July 1918.
Remembered on Tower Hill Memorial, London and Seafront Memorial, Teignmouth. Also remembered on Canadian Virtual War Memorial.
"On July 1st, 1918, Westmoor, on a voyage from Gibraltar to Buenos Aires in ballast, was sunk by the German submarine U-91 (Alfred von Glasenapp), 210 miles NWxW3/4W of Casablanca. 2 persons were lost."
