Lance Corporal Albert Lake age 30.

Born at Exminster in 1887 and baptised on 4 December 1887, son of William, a gardener, and Charlotte Lake. In 1891 the family were still living in Exminster, but by 1901 Albert was living with his parents and younger brother at Haldon Lodge, Dawlish. His parents were living at 28 Coombe Road, Teignmouth in 1911 and his mother, then a widow, was later shown as living at 20 Exeter Road, Teignmouth, Devon.

Albert enlisted at Reading with 1st Battalion, Worcester Regiment, service number 203117.

In September 1917 he was officially listed as wounded in the Western Times. In March 1918 the regiment was part of the 24th Brigade fighting the Germans who had broken through during Operation Michael. Albert was posted missing and later confirmed as killed in action on 28 March 1918.

Originally buried by Germans, his stone is now marked "Buried near this Spot" in Pargny British Cemetery, Somme. Remembered on Seafront Memorial and St. James' Church Memorial Window, Teignmouth.

Grave Inscription reads: "Their Glory Shall Not Be Blotted Out"

"Pte A Lake, Worcester Regt son of Mrs C Lake, Exeter Road reported missing." Teignmouth Post - 19 April and Western Times - 18 April 1918
