Born 1886 in Eastbourne, Sussex. His parents were Horace, a market gardener/green grocer, and Mary Ann (nee Marchant).
In 1907 he married Martha Ellen Hill in Lustleigh, Devon. The 1911 census finds him living in Woodpark Cottage Lustleigh with Martha and their young family, working as a domestic gardener.
Private Colbran enlisted in Newton Abbot, joining 15th Battalion of Devonshire Regiment service number 5145, and was killed in action on 24 April 1918 whilst serving with 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment, 8th Division, service number TF/315038.
Martha Colbran later moved to Beach Cottage, Riverside, Shaldon and according to local information she regularly worshipped at St Peter's Church, Shaldon.
Private Colbran is remembered at Adelaide Cemetery, Villers Bretonneaux and on the Shaldon War Memorial.
