Private Frederick Joseph Trout born 4 August 1889 and baptised at St. James' Church on 26 December, 1889.
Son of Frederick James and Helena Trout of 4 Ivy Lane. In 1891 and 1901 he was living with his family at this address.
Frederick was serving with the 2nd Wessex Field Ambulance, RAMC, billeted in Teignmouth during the winter of 1915/16.

He was later transferred to 2/22nd Battalion, London Regiment, service number 682319, and arrived with them at Le Havre in June 1916.
In November that year the regiment were sent to Salonika where he took part in the battle of Doiran; on June 1917 the regiment went to Egypt and were fighting in the Palestine Campaign and the battle to capture Jerusalem. It was while serving with 2/22nd Battalion, London Regiment, who were part of the army defending Palestine that Fred was killed in action on 9 March 1918.
Remembered on Jerusalem Memorial; and on Seafront Memorial, St. James' Church Memorial, Teignmouth and on a memorial stone in Teignmouth Old Cemetery.

The Teignmouth Old Cemetery Memorial stone to Frederick and Joseph Trout inscription says:
"In loving memory of Frederick J. Trout beloved husband of Helena Trout died 29th Sept. 1917 aged 64 also their sons Frederick J. Trout killed in action in Palestine 9th March 1918 aged 28. Joseph H. Trout, died at soldiers Belchers hospital Calgary, Canada through disablement sustained in France during the Great War 18th Nov 1924 aged 33 'at rest'."

Abu Tellal was a hill that concealed four Turkish machine guns that provided flanking fire against the 2nd/22nd Battalion.
The 2nd/24th reached the summit just after midday and were relieved by a company of the 2nd/23rd. These Londoners provided the last thrust, storming the Machine guns and killing or driving off the enemy." "Teignmouth Post, "March 9 1918.
